🗻 Mt. Fuji Now Charges ¥4,000 + Mandatory Web Booking

From July 1, 2025 — ¥4,000 fee and advance booking required on all 4 trails

What's changing?

Until now, Mt. Fuji's entry payment was mainly a voluntary conservation cooperation fee of about ¥1,000. From the summer 2025 season, a mandatory ¥4,000 entry fee applies on all four trails. On Yamanashi's Yoshida trail, the previous ¥2,000 toll and cooperation fee were scrapped and merged into a single ¥4,000 usage fee. Shizuoka's Fujinomiya, Gotemba and Subashiri trails newly introduced the same ¥4,000, aligning both prefectures. Payment must be made in advance via web reservation — not cash at the gate — and a safety e-learning course is also required.

👥 Who is affected?

  • Everyone climbing Mt. Fuji, including foreign tourists
  • Users of Yamanashi's Yoshida trail
  • Users of Shizuoka's Fujinomiya / Gotemba / Subashiri trails
  • Anyone planning a reckless overnight climb (now restricted)

🌏 Impact on foreigners

Foreign tourists planning to climb Mt. Fuji must fix their date and complete web reservation, payment and the e-learning course in advance. You cannot climb by simply showing up at the 5th Station without a booking. The Yoshida trail's 4,000-per-day cap means popular dates fill quickly. Guidance is available in English and other languages, but payment generally requires a credit card. Holding a mountain-hut reservation lets you enter even at night or on full days, so booking a hut is an advantage in peak season.

💡 Key points to know

1Once your date is set, reserve and pay the ¥4,000 in advance via the official Fuji climbing site
2Shizuoka's three trails require online pre-registration plus a safety e-learning course
3No entry between 2pm and 3am unless you hold a mountain-hut reservation
4The Yoshida trail caps climbers at 4,000/day — book popular dates early
5Save your booking confirmation or QR code to show at the 5th Station gate
6Avoid light gear and overnight bullet climbs — always bring warm clothing, water and a headlamp
